“I’m glad he’s safe”: Vice President Harris contacts Trump after Florida shooting

US Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by phone with former President Donald Trump on Tuesday and expressed relief that he was unharmed following the reported shooting near his golf course in Florida.
The conversation, which the White House described as “friendly and brief,” came after gunshots were reported near Trump's golf club in West Palm Beach on Sunday.
Trump's campaign team confirmed his safety after the incident, while the FBI launched an investigation and spoke of an “attempted assassination.”
A White House official issued a statement saying: “Vice President Harris called former President Trump this afternoon to express her gratitude directly to him for keeping him safe. The conversation was brief and cordial.”
The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, is charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, according to a CNN report. Routh remains in custody. His detention hearing is scheduled for September 23, with arraignment scheduled for September 30.
This is the second Assassination Trump during his current presidential campaign. He was previously targeted during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Vice President Harris had previously expressed her relief on social media on Sunday, writing: “I have been informed of reports that shots were fired near former President Trump's Florida estate, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”
President Joe Biden also commented on the incident, saying he was “relieved” that Trump was unharmed. He praised the Secret Service for its vigilance and confirmed that a suspect was in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
“I commend the Secret Service and its law enforcement partners for their efforts to protect the former president and those around him,” Biden said. “There is no place for political violence in our country.”
Biden stressed that he had instructed federal police to provide all necessary resources to ensure Trump's continued security.
