Former Miami Dolphins running back Chris Brooks back in active squad

Running back Chris Brooks is back on the active NFL roster.

Brooks was signed by the Green Bay Packers to their 53-man roster after spending the first two weeks of the regular season on their practice squad. The Packers placed fellow running back MarShawn Lloyd on the injured list in connection with Brooks' signing.

One day after the Miami Dolphins released Brooks on an injury waiver agreement, allowing him to sign with any team, he joined the Packers' practice squad.

Brooks' attempt to make the active roster this summer ended when he was released or injured as the roster was reduced to 53 players.

Brooks had been practicing after being placed in concussion protocol after being hit a few plays after completing a 59-yard run during the team's preseason win over the Washington Commanders.

After joining the Dolphins as a non-drafted free agent from BYU in 2023, Brooks showed intriguing potential from the start and brought the size that the Dolphins' running back corps lacks.

Brooks made the 53-man roster last year and although his playing time was limited, he rushed for 52 yards in the historic Week 3 win over the Denver Broncos and 28 yards in the Week 6 win over the Carolina Panthers.

But he suffered a leg injury in that game against Carolina that landed him on the injured list. The Dolphins thought enough of him to call him back, and he played three more games in the closing stages, despite having only three rushing attempts.

The signing of rookie Jaylen Wright, drafted in the fourth round, made Brooks' plans to expand the roster significantly more difficult, especially with the experienced Jeff Wilson Jr. having a solid training camp.

Brooks undoubtedly has the potential to build an NFL career, starting with his physical condition, but he has suffered quite a few injuries in the short time he has been in the game.

The Packers’ next game is on Sunday in Tennessee.
