Teacher's assistant is said to have had a relationship with a student and wanted to continue it after the arrest

LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – A teaching assistant in the Clark County School District is accused of having a relationship with a high school student.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, 20-year-old Jerusalem Roman Garcia is accused of sexual assault against a minor.

Police said their arrest came after they visited Eldorado High School on August 23, where a student told them that her ex-boyfriend was having a relationship with a teacher.

According to reports, the student was informed about the relationship by Garcia's younger sister.

Investigators said they questioned the male student about a possible relationship with Garcia and he told them the two met at a party in May and contacted each other through social media.

According to police, the teaching assistant and the student had about eleven dates over the course of three months.

The male student told officers that he was going to pick Garcia up from her home because she did not have a car and that the two would kiss on a date.

The police report on Garcia states that police were able to confirm messages between the student and Garcia because her phone number was linked to her employee profile.

During an interrogation, Garcia admitted, according to police, that he had a “loving” relationship with the student and wanted to continue it even after her arrest.

The 20-year-old teacher said the two did not have sex because of the student's age and her profession.

After Garcia finished her testimony, officers reported observing she sent a message to someone on Instagram in which she said she discussed the incident and “reconciled stories.”

Garcia's next court date is scheduled for September 30.
