Capitol Hill businesses evacuated due to hazardous materials incident – ​​KIRO 7 News Seattle

SEATTLE – An entire retail building in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood was evacuated Tuesday due to an apparent hazardous materials incident.

According to the Seattle Fire Department, the evacuation was ordered for safety reasons and no injuries were reported.

Shortly after noon, units moved to the 400 block of Broadway Avenue East, where the Broadway Market shopping center is located.

According to SPD, Broadway Avenue East was closed from East Harrison Street to East Republican Street. People were asked to avoid the area.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., SFD HazMat teams entered the building to investigate the incident. Less than ten minutes later, teams determined the scene was safe and turned the incident over to SPD.
