Cyclist hospitalized after dog bite in Aurora – possibly the same dog involved in the 2015 incident

A cyclist was hospitalized in Aurora on Saturday, September 15, after being bitten by a dog. The dog is now in a 10-day quarantine.

The incident occurred on Idalia Road as a group of bicyclists rode through the area, according to officials. Blounts Creek emergency crews responded to the 911 call after a dog, who was being accompanied outside by its owner, chased the bicyclists and bit a driver who was riding at the rear of the group, officials said.

The rider was taken to a local hospital for treatment of wounds to her lower leg. The dog was quarantined for observation for 10 days and the investigation will continue from there, Beaufort County officials told us.

An officer also told us that there was a previous case on the same street in 2015 reported by Craven County Animal Control. That case involved someone seeking medical attention for a dog bite. The documentation involved a one-year-old German Shepherd and officials say it is believed to be the same dog from last weekend's incident. The dog from the 2015 incident was quarantined at home and upon follow-up 10 days later, all involved were fine.
