Two men arrested in northwest Ohio for links to January 6 insurrection

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Two people have been arrested in northwest Ohio for their alleged connection to the Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021. The arrests were made this week and link the two men to federal crimes.

Todd Michael Bills was arrested in Toledo on Monday and arraigned before a Lucas County district judge. According to federal court documents, Bills faces four counts, including entering and remaining in a restricted building and marching, demonstrating or staging a protest picket in front of a Capitol building.

The FBI used cell phone tracking and Google Maps to locate Bills at the crime scene.

According to court documents, Bills climbed a scaffold, broke through a line of officers and entered the Capitol.

Bills' case will be transferred to a federal court in DC

Another man, Richard Gutowski, was picked up by Ohio State Highway Patrol officers and taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.

According to federal court documents, Gutowski, a Texas native, told the FBI that he was at the Capitol on Jan. 6. He traveled from New Jersey, took a second person with him and went into the Rotunda.

He met with FBI agents several times and explained what he was doing there. He also admitted to trespassing.

It is unclear what he was doing at the time of his arrest in Defiance. Gutowski faces five charges in federal court.
