Devin Strader's ex obtained a restraining order against him in 2017

Bachelorette Fans probably don't need any more reasons to dislike Devin Strader, but here they are anyway.

The 28-year-old manager of a Texas shipping company who left his fiancée, Bachelorette Jenn Tran was arrested shortly after their engagement for allegedly breaking into an ex-girlfriend’s house in Louisiana in 2017. According to legal documents, Weekly entertainmenthis ex had also obtained a restraining order against him at the time. (Reality Steve first reported the news on Monday.)

In 2017, Strader's ex-girlfriend – who was not named in the Baton Rouge Police Department affidavit – told an officer that she and Strader had recently separated and that he lived two houses down from her. After leaving town, she came home to find that her house had been robbed and a diamond necklace – one Strader had given her when they were still together – was missing.

The woman also claimed to police that Strader had “come to her house several times, banging on the door and yelling at her,” and that she had since filed a restraining order against him. “Later that evening [Strader] “She started a fire in the street with some sort of restraining order,” the affidavit continues. “She also had a flat tire on her vehicle and when it was changed, [Strader] came out and started laughing at them.” Strader was then arrested for burglary. He eventually pleaded guilty to trespassing and simple damage to property less than $500 and received one year of unsupervised probation.

I know what you are thinking, rose lovers. ABC and Warner Bros., the studio that produced the Bachelor franchise, conduct background checks on their candidates, so how could they have missed this? A source close to production told EW, “We take the safety of our candidates very seriously and make every effort to conduct a thorough check. As extensive as our screening process is, this protective order did not come up in our research.”

According to the Reality Steve According to reports, the restraining order Strader's ex obtained against him was later sealed, but the burglary arrest affidavit – which is where the restraining order comes in – is publicly available.

EW has obtained the now-unsealed petition for protection from abuse that Strader's ex-girlfriend filed on March 22, 2017. The document contains the woman's handwritten account of Strader's alleged abuse, including that he “spit on me and threw his drink on me in front of everyone in the crowd at the Pelicans game” and “put a chokehold on my mouth.”

Strader is already Public Enemy No. 1 in Bachelor Nation for his callous treatment of Jenn Tran after her season of The Bachelorette finished filming. At the live season finale, Strader was booed by the audience and later attempted to defend himself in a 13-minute video that included images of several text messages with Tran. The video has since been deleted.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a Bachelorette A contestant's criminal past slipped through the cracks during the show's vetting process. In 2018, producers discovered after the fact that Lincoln Adim, one of the contestants on Becca Kufrin's season of The Bachelorettewas arrested for assault after groping a woman on a harbor cruise. In a statement to PEOPLE, a Warner Bros. spokesperson said: “No one on The Bachelorette The production had no knowledge of the incident or allegations at the time Lincoln Adim was cast, and he himself denied ever engaging in sexual misconduct or being accused of sexual misconduct.”
