Miley Cyrus is being sued over her Grammy-winning hit “Flowers” ​​because she allegedly copied Bruno Mars’ song

Pop megastar Miley Cyrus is facing a lawsuit alleging that her 2023 hit “Flowers” was inspired by Bruno Mars' 2013 ballad “When I Was Your Man.”

In the lawsuit filed Monday by Tempo Music Investments in federal court in Los Angeles, Cyrus and her co-writers Gregory Hein and Michael Pollack are accused of unauthorized use of the Mars song.

“Due to the combination and numerous similarities between the two recordings, there is no denying that 'Flowers' would not exist without 'When I Was Your Man,'” the documents state. It also states that 'Flowers' duplicates “numerous melodic, harmonic and lyrical elements” of Mars' piece.

Tempo Music Investments is demanding that Cyrus and the other defendants named in the lawsuit cease copying, distributing and publicly performing the song. The company is also seeking damages, the exact amount of which has not yet been determined.

With “Flowers” ​​Cyrus won her first grammy at this year's ceremony for Best Pop Solo Performance. The track also set a new record as the fastest-reaching song on 1 billion streams on Spotify, reaching the milestone just 112 days after its release on January 12, 2023.
