Fatal crash on US-60 ends near Granby; Highway Patrol Major Accident Investigation Unit on scene | Joplin News First









GRANBY, Missouri (KOAM) – At around 7 p.m. Monday, Newton County Central Communications alerted reports of a fatal crash on the west side of town, at US-60 and City Limit Road.

The Granby Fire Department, Newton County Sheriff's Deputies and Newton County EMS responded. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified, who then called their MCIU (Major Crash Investigation Unit), which collected data and mapped the crash for reconstruction and investigation.

Nathaniel McCamish19, of Pierce City, Missouri, was driving a Chrysler 300 westbound on US-60. He sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from Monett to Mercy Springfield.

Shawn McCamishof Pierce City was a passenger. His death was pronounced at the scene by Newton County Coroner Dale Owen.

Brian Sherman55, of Nevada, Missouri, was driving a 2002 Peterbilt tractor-trailer and trailer eastbound on US-60. He was uninjured and remained at the scene of the accident. His trailer was hauling a full load of corn.

“[Chrysler 300] I overtook an uninvolved semi-trailer on the top of a hill when [Peterbilt] came over the ridge and [Chrysler 300] tries to avoid [Peterbilt] by swerving to the left and hit [Peterbilt] head-on. Both vehicles caught fire. [Peterbilt] came to a stop and blocked the road. [Chrysler 300] ended up lying in the ditch.”

We are told there is at least one fatality. It involves a semi-truck and a car. Other vehicles were damaged by debris. A second person was flown to an unknown hospital. The semi-truck driver was uninjured at the scene.

Redirects:

  • Traffic on US-60 WB can travel north on Highway E to Highway J and then west to MO-59.
  • EB traffic on US-60 can take MO-86 east to Highway B and then north to US-60.

A firefighter from Granby/East Newton was taken to a hospital in Joplin with a medical issue. He was still in contact on the way to the hospital.

Both vehicles involved caught fire, but the fires are under control.
