Youth cycling groups in California charged with crimes, 1 person arrested

Hollister Police are investigating two incidents in which a large group of juveniles allegedly caused chaos on the roads and committed crimes over the weekend. The first incident occurred Friday when an officer noticed a group of 30 to 40 juvenile bicyclists obstructing traffic at the intersection of Airline Highway and Hillcrest Road. The officer attempted to stop the group by turning on his car lights. The group drove off, some began filming with their cellphones and others did wheelies. A 15-year-old juvenile, who was wearing a mask and had a GoPro with him and was filming with his cellphone, was arrested at the scene. He was arrested on several charges, according to a police news release. The next incident was reported Saturday near 700 South Street. A victim reported a group of juveniles obstructing traffic. “As the driver attempted to get the attention of the juvenile drivers, one of them damaged the victim's vehicle with his bike post. Fearing this would continue, the driver attempted to drive away, but the juveniles followed him,” a police news release said. When the driver stopped at a stop sign, another juvenile punched him in the face. The driver got away and called police.
