New Jersey family dies in car crash while son was at college

A college student lost three of his family members when they were killed in a traffic accident on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey.

New Jersey State Police told PEOPLE that 54-year-old David Dryerman was driving a Tesla Model S north on the Garden State Parkway in Woodbridge Township on the night of Saturday, September 14, when the vehicle “left the road and struck a sign, railing and concrete bridge pier.”

David and his passengers – his wife, Michele Dryerman, 54, and their 17-year-old daughter, Brooke – “suffered fatal injuries,” the department added, noting that the accident is still under investigation and no further information is available.

The family was on their way home after watching live music at the See. Hear. Now. Festival a few hours earlier, nj1015.com reports.

On Sunday morning, September 15, Woodcliff Lake Mayor Carlos A. Rendo responded to the car crash, writing on Facebook: “I just learned of this terrible tragedy. I am in shock. Please pray for the family.”

The Dryermans' fourth family member, 19-year-old son Max, was in college at the time of the incident, Patch.com reports.

According to the Pascack Press, about 150 people from Pascack Hills High School, where Brooke was a senior, and the Valley Chabad Center for Jewish Living held a solemn candle lighting ceremony Sunday evening.

“We are all shocked and suffering greatly today,” Rabbi Yosef Orenstein said at the ceremony, describing David and Michele as “beloved parents” and Brooke as “dear friend to many of our teenagers,” according to the Pascack Press.

The School of Rock Waldwick, a music school in Waldwick, New Jersey, also responded to the family members' deaths on Facebook, saying that David was a “dear friend” and a “valued member of our Adult Jam.”

“He leaves behind his son Max, who also played keyboard with us for many years,” the post continued.

Max has set up a GoFundMe campaign to support his return to college and raise funds for charity.
