Anna Delvey's glittery ankle tag steals the show on Dancing With the Stars

Anna Delvey, the convicted fraudster commonly known as the “fake heiress,” showed off her shiny ankle tag in her Dancing with the stars Debut on Tuesday.

Her professional dance partner Ezra Sosa called the glittering monitor the “real star of the show” in an interview with Associated Press after the premiere of the new season.

But Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, downplayed the significance of the tag.

“It's actually not a big problem at all. It's pretty light and I asked them to tighten it so it doesn't dangle,” she said. “So it's not that bad.”

Despite the adjustments to her name tag, Delvey – who was found guilty of theft in 2019 after defrauding wealthy New Yorkers by posing as a rich German heiress – wished she could have done a better job of dancing to the tune of Sabrina Carpenter's pop hit “Espresso.”

“I'm relieved it's over,” she said. “I think my dancing could have been a little better, but I'm glad I did it and it was a great experience overall.”

Delvey scored 18/30 and was pretty Little Liars Star Chandler Kinney's impressive debut with 23/20. The imposter still fared better than some of the other contenders, including Tori Spelling, who finished the night with 17/30.

Sosa said the ankle bracelet was not the cause.

“I find it kind of funny how people like it – it's not an ankle weight,” he said. “It's not 20 pounds. It's literally less than a pound and it's no big deal.”

Delvey's ankle bracelet has nothing to do with her conviction for stealing about $275,000 from friends and financial institutions in 2019. She wears it in response to her ongoing legal battle to prevent her deportation from the United States.

After her release from prison in 2021, Delvey was arrested by immigration authorities for overstaying her visa. The German-born heiress then spent more than a year in ICE custody before being allowed to continue her fight against deportation under house arrest.
