Video shows the moment the van drives past a stopped school bus

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Video captures the moment a pickup truck pulled over on the shoulder of a school bus dropping off a child at Little Blessings Daycare on Highway 64 in Lincoln County.

This is about 90 miles south of Nashville.

The Lincoln County School Bus Garage released a video Monday afternoon showing a child about to exit a school bus when a minivan uses the shoulder to pass the bus. The child stops before the minivan gets too close and waits until it passes before crossing the shoulder.

The bus driver was heard exclaiming, “Oh my God,” as the van drove past.

The Lincoln County School Bus Garage called the incident “absolutely unacceptable” and stated that the stop sign was not posted on the school bus.

The bus depot is asking anyone with information to come forward.

It is illegal to overtake a school bus when it has stopped to pick up or drop off children. Drivers coming from any direction must stop until the bus resumes its journey.

It is a Class A misdemeanor and the driver can be fined between $250 and $1,000 for failing to stop for a stopped school bus.
