On April 19, 2023, officers were called to Morgan's home to check on his welfare after he failed to pick up his daughter from school. Documents obtained by Court TV indicate that authorities found Morgan dead on his living room floor with an apparent gunshot wound to his face. He was “naked and wearing a bathrobe,” and officers noticed several shell casings on the floor near his body.

Neighbors told police they spotted a vehicle in Morgan's driveway around 5:00 a.m. Although several people heard possible gunshots around 7:20 a.m., no one called 911. Witnesses also reported seeing “a short individual” with “long dark hair” exit the home, take a box out of the vehicle and carry it back inside before leaving the scene.

Paschal was arrested on May 26, 2023. Authorities have not said what evidence led them to Paschal or her relationship with Morgan.

At the time of his death, Morgan was serving as an assistant professor at the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University.

Paschal's trial is scheduled to begin with jury selection on Wednesday, September 18.
