After being stopped for driving under the influence, I face drug and weapons charges – First update from the state

Police have arrested a man on drug and weapons charges after he was stopped over the weekend.

Officials said that just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, an officer with the New Castle County Police Division's D-Squad was conducting proactive patrol in the Hares Corner area when he observed a black Chevrolet Caprice committing several traffic violations on Route 13.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as 48-year-old William Clark of Wilmington. During the stop, signs of impairment were observed, leading to Clark's arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said Wednesday. A search of the vehicle found a .38 special revolver, extra ammunition, brass knuckles, 114 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, zip-lock bags and $2,100 in cash, according to police.

William Clark was subsequently transported to the New Castle County Sheriff's Office where he was charged with aggravated possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession or control of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited from entering, and driving under the influence of alcohol (third offense). He was also charged with misdemeanors including possession of marijuana for other than personal use, carrying a concealed dangerous instrument, possession of drug paraphernalia for personal use, failure to carry required insurance, and driving without a valid license. In addition to these charges, he was cited for speeding and failure to maintain lane.

Clark was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and, after failing to post $48,803 bail, was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
