State police investigate fatal pedestrian crash in New Castle

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred last night that left a woman dead.

On September 17, 2024, at approximately 8:23 p.m., a maroon Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound on Boulden Boulevard, approaching the intersection with Southgate Boulevard. At the same time, a pedestrian attempted to cross Boulden Boulevard from the north side of the roadway to the south side. The pedestrian crossed the roadway and entered the path of the Hyundai and was struck by the Hyundai.

The pedestrian, a 44-year-old woman from Middletown, Delaware, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her name is not being released until her family and relatives have been notified.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 22-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was not injured.

The road was closed for about three hours while the accident scene was being investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this accident to contact Sergeant J.
