Light rail collides with car on street in East LA, derails; 1 person hospitalized

EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A Metro light rail train and a car collided on a street in east Los Angeles Wednesday morning, derailing and sending one person to the hospital, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 9:20 a.m. near the intersection of Third Street and Rowan Avenue. It involved an E Line train and a black sedan. The number of people on the train and in the car was unclear.

The condition of the person admitted to hospital was initially unknown.

Service on the E line was suspended due to the accident near the Indiana Metro station, the agency said, urging passengers to follow @metrolaalerts on X for up-to-date information.

The cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
