Man City Women vs Paris FC player ratings: Vivianne Miedema scores her first goal for the Cityzens but Lionesses star Jess Park steals the show in Champions League defeat

Mary Fowler and Chloe Kelly also got on the scoresheet as Gareth Taylor's team all but secured their return to the UWCL after a three-year absence.

Manchester City are on the verge of competing in the Women's Champions League for the first time in three years after Vivianne Miedema's first goal for the club paved the way for a 5-0 win at Paris FC on Wednesday. Having lost to Real Madrid in qualifying in two consecutive seasons, Gareth Taylor's side failed to even qualify for the preliminary round of last year's competition due to a disappointing fourth-place finish in the Women's Super League. The wait is soon to be over, however, with the second leg of that qualifying round next Thursday a mere formality following City's ruthless performance in the French capital.

Miedema's stylish finish breathed life into the game after the most notable incident of the opening 35 minutes had been a surprise cross from Lionesses star Jess Park that unsettled City's hosts but did them no harm. When the Dutch striker squeezed her improvised volley under opposition goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, the floodgates threatened to open. Seconds later, a superb shot from Aoba Fujino deflected onto the crossbar and within a minute Park had made it 2-0. A beautiful direct shot involving herself, Mary Fowler and Lauren Hemp ended with the latter setting up a backheel pass to her England team-mate on goal. From close range, Park made no mistake.

Fujino could have scored another goal before half-time but Nnadozie's shot was intercepted from five yards out. Paris FC were unlikely to make City regret the missed opportunity, however. Two minutes after the break, Fowler's pressure paid off when she tackled Nnadozie in her own six-yard box and slotted the ball into an empty net. Park scored her second goal of the day from close range an hour ago. Second-half substitute Chloe Kelly rounded off the scoring as Man City moved close to the group stages of the Champions League.
