FOX23 reported that police have launched an investigation into the fatal accident on Tuesday.

According to police, preliminary results of the investigation indicate that a white Honda Accord was traveling westbound on 71st Street and ran a red light when a maroon Kia Optima entered the intersection on a green light. The Kia struck the Honda on the passenger side, causing it to cross the median where two people were standing.

The two people, who were standing on the median to ask for donations, were both hit by the Honda, which ran a red light, Tulsa police said.

The driver of the Honda that hit the two people was identified as 28-year-old Nicholas Stewart.

Stewart was arrested for involuntary manslaughter and booked into the Tulsa County Jail.

Stewart is a tribal member and falls under the McGirt ruling, so he will be charged in either tribal or federal court.

TULSA, Oklahoma – One person was killed and another was hospitalized in an accident at the corner of 71st Street and Yale, according to Tulsa police.

Tulsa police said one person was killed and a second person was hospitalized in a crash at the corner of 71st Street and Yale.

According to police, one car was traveling north and the other west before a collision occurred at the intersection.

“One of the vehicles then drove into two pedestrians who were begging for money, possibly for a local organization,” said Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean.

According to police, the people were standing on the median at the time of the collision. One of them died, the other is in serious condition.

According to TPD, no one else was injured.

At this point, the police are not yet sure which driver was at fault, but are continuing to investigate.

“Any time we have an injury or fatality like this, it becomes a very involved investigation. A lot of things go into it. A lot of aspects have to be considered, from measurements, distances, weather, curbs. They go through a lot of training to investigate these types of horrific accidents. I mean, it's not a small, normal fender bender, which can be kind of simpler. This is a detailed and horrific thing,” Bean said.

The senior pastor of Oklahoma City-based Saved By Grace Restoration Ministries confirmed that the two people hit worked for his organization.

Pastor Azor Barnes said the people were from Dallas. He said their van broke down, so they decided to hand out flyers and collect money. They were hit.

The leaflets were spread out all over the sidewalk near the accident site.

Barnes said he and his ministry were saddened by the news and it was a terrible loss for their organization.

The organization helps drug and alcohol addicts and offers religious sober living programs and refuges.

The road has now reopened and FOX23 will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
