Man charged after high-speed chase; Horry County crash leaves passenger with broken spine

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A North Carolina man is facing charges after leading Horry County police on a chase that left his passenger seriously injured.

According to the files, 26-year-old Zachary Green of Tabor City is accused of ignoring a blue light, resulting in serious bodily harm, and resisting arrest.

According to documents obtained by WMBF News, this charge stems from a chase on August 22 on Highway 701 in the Loris area. Police attempted to pull Green over after he allegedly disregarded a stop sign, but he continued to fail to stop when lights flashed on the highway.

The police report states that Green turned the car off in a gas station parking lot and even spun the tires before getting back on the highway. The chase then reportedly continued toward North Carolina, reaching speeds of 130 miles per hour.

Just before reaching the state line, police say Green lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch. According to the report, Green climbed over the center console and ran into a wooded area before he was eventually arrested.

The passenger was found next to the vehicle and taken to a hospital. According to the arrest warrants, the passenger suffered a fractured vertebra as a result of the accident.

According to the police report, Green was charged with simple possession of marijuana after a small amount was found in the vehicle.

According to records, Green was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Tuesday and released Wednesday on $2,000 bail.
