One dead in car crash in rural West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY – One person died and two were injured in a car crash early Wednesday morning in rural West Liberty.

The identities of those involved were not yet known as of Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the three were driving a 2006 Chevy pickup north in the 1200 block of Elder Avenue – west of West Liberty – around 12:45 a.m. when the pickup failed to negotiate a curve and left the road.

The truck rolled over several times and finally came to a stop in a soybean field.

One person was partially ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, according to a news release from the West Liberty Fire Department.
