Cuban rapper Ovi arrested after road rage incident in Miami, says FHP

MIAMI – Cuban rapper Ovi was arrested during a traffic stop in Doral on Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, following a road rage incident in Miami the day before.

Ovidio Crespo-Retureta, 28, of Doral, faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and improper display of a weapon in connection with the DUI incident, as well as possession of a controlled substance in a traffic detention facility.

Crespo-Retureta was held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $6,500 bail and an immigration hold.

At 12:46 p.m. Monday, a driver was traveling eastbound on State Road 90 (Tamiami Trail) under Florida's Turnpike, according to the FHP arrest report. To his left in the inside lane was a McLaren vehicle, later identified as Crespo-Retureta, followed by a black Lamborghini Urus.

The McLaren changed lanes into the victim's car's lane and the driver honked, FHP said.

Crespo-Retureta pulled out a firearm and the victim ducked “in fear for his life because he believed the perpetrator was going to shoot him,” the police report said.

The McLaren and the Lamborghini changed lanes to the outside lane. The victim pulled up next to him and Crespo-Retureta pointed a firearm at him, according to FHP.

The victim, who recorded the incident on his phone, stood next to the McLaren and the driver again pointed a firearm at him.

The McLaren drove onto the toll road together with the Lamborghini and continued north.

On Tuesday at 5:29 p.m., 28-year-old Ovidio Crespo-Retureta was seen driving the Lamborghini.

A police officer saw the vehicle turn right from the left-turn lane on Northwest 97th Avenue onto Northwest 74th Street.

According to the FHP report, all four occupants were dragged from the vehicle and handcuffed.

Crespo-Retureta was taken into custody for the incident that occurred earlier in the day.

The officer confiscated a galvanized black Sig Sauer pistol. A brown backpack was also searched and two pills were found inside, later identified as generic Percocet. A taser was also found under the backpack, and another taser was found on the front right passenger's waistband.

The victim was able to recognize the vehicles involved and identified the driver as Crespo-Retureta through his Instagram page, which has 3.8 million followers, and he showed him in a photo lineup.

Footage of the incident was posted on the Instagram page “Only in Dade.”

Born in Cuba, Ovi studied at the Medical University of Havana and later moved to Miami.
