Topeka Middle School confirms there was no firearms incident

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – A Topeka Public Schools (TPS) USD 501 official confirmed to 13 NEWS that no incident involving a firearm occurred at Eisenhower Middle School on Wednesday, September 18.

TPS employees and families received the following message today:

“Dear TPS Staff and Families: Local law enforcement has confirmed that rumors of social media communications are circulating throughout Kansas that focus on general threats to schools. While there are no substantiated threats against our schools, we want to remind families that when concerns are brought to their attention, local law enforcement investigates them and works in partnership with our schools to keep schools safe. Additionally, safety drills are held throughout the year in all schools and we thank our local law enforcement for their ongoing support with the various safety drills. If you have any questions or requests, please contact your child's school principal. Thank you for your support as we continue to maintain high visibility of our school officials to ensure the safety of staff and students.”

TPS added that it is committed to the safety of all its students and staff.
