The best photos of the Harvest Supermoon on September 17, 2024

This year’s Harvest Moon was a spectacular sight in the sky!

The full moon on September 17 not only brought a rare supermoon – when the moon appears brighter and larger in the sky – but also the second lunar eclipse of the year.

This was a partial lunar eclipse; according to NASA, the event was “an imperfect alignment of the Sun, Earth and Moon [that] causes the moon to cross only part of the earth's surface. [shadow]. The shadow grows larger and then disappears without ever completely covering the moon.”

Skywatchers can look forward to the next total lunar eclipse, which will occur March 13-14, 2025. But in the meantime, photographers around the world, from China and Australia to the United States and beyond, have been capturing stunning photos of the full moon.
