Police identify victim of Monday's fatal accident on Cordon Road

Salem police have determined the identities of a man and woman killed in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks on Southeast Cordon Road Monday morning.

Mariela Franco-Ramos, 28, of Mt. Angel, and Heriberto Rangel-Rangel, 46, of Silverton, died in the collision.

They were traveling in the same truck when the accident occurred, Salem police said in a press release on Wednesday afternoon. Police did not say who was driving.

Police and rescue workers arrived at the crash site shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday.

Salem police said at the time that three adults in one of the vehicles were seriously injured and taken to Salem Hospital. Police could not say which vehicle the injured were in.

Franco-Ramos and Rangel-Rangel were already dead by the time rescue workers arrived.

Salem police said the accident is still under investigation and no arrests or charges have been filed.

Otherwise, they did not provide any details about the crash.

The Salem-based agency was called out to 18 fatal traffic accidents this year, in which 19 people lost their lives.
