Man arrested after brief standoff with police in Moorpark

A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a brief standoff with officers in Moorpark.

It all happened at an apartment complex on Moorpark Avenue, just south of Highway 118, where a man barricaded himself in an apartment, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

It is still unclear why the man barricaded himself in the apartment.

With SkyCal in the sky, a large police presence was visible outside the building. At one point, officers fired pepper balls into the unit through a window.

At around 5 p.m., officers could be seen leading the suspect out of the building in handcuffs. He was sprayed with water because there were traces of pepper spray in the apartment.

He was then placed on a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance. The extent and cause of his injuries are unknown.
