Bridgeport police make arrests after recent threats at school – NBC Connecticut

Police have made an arrest in connection with recent threats against schools in the Bridgeport School District.

The police department said it was aware of the threats and was actively investigating them. Shortly before 11 p.m., authorities arrested a minor.

There will be increased police presence at schools on Thursday.

“We are committed to ensuring that all of our students and staff are safe in our schools and will provide all necessary resources to protect our schools,” the department said in a statement.

The Connecticut Education Association (CEA) told NBC Connecticut that teachers and staff had been left in the dark.

“Excluding teachers and staff from the process and not informing them of a potential threat is an epic communication failure by the principal and another example of her disrespect and lack of concern for the dedicated educators in Bridgeport,” said CEA President Kate Dias.

In response, the school district issued the following statement:

“We apologize that our teachers were not notified at the same time as our parents and principals today when we communicated a non-credible online threat through our automated notification system. This was an oversight on our part. We are a district that is continuously improving, and we have protocols in place to ensure that all of our staff are notified of critical matters at the same time. We appreciate the fact that our teachers provide us with feedback that continually helps us improve our communication protocols, making our district stronger in supporting students and families.”

No specific information about the threats was provided.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 203-576-TIPS.
