Father of three young children among four killed in accident on I-45

The father of three young children, including a two-week-old, was one of four people killed in a multi-car crash over the weekend.

Jarodrick Smith, 28, dropped his family off at his mother's house and told them he would be right back Saturday afternoon.

According to Dallas police, Smith's red Jeep was one of several cars involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 45 near Simpson Stuart Road.

The first accident occurred when a northbound car collided with another vehicle and was thrown across the center lane into southbound traffic.

Two other vehicles crashed into it, including Smith's. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“It's like I'm in a dream and I'm trying to get out of it,” said Naotassja Calloway, Smith's partner. “All I keep saying is: I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming.”

Calloway was able to visit Smith in the hospital before he died.

She wants people to know that Smith was a hard-working man who put family first and loved his children.

“I want him to come back to me now,” Calloway said.

Despite all her pain, she only thinks about her children.

“Just pray for them,” Calloway said. “I know I'm going to miss him, and the kids are going to miss him.”

When they grow up, Calloway will make sure they know who their father was.

“I just want everyone to know that he was caring. He was protective. He was a joy,” she said.

Three passengers in the car hit by Smith were killed in the accident on Saturday.

The Dallas County Coroner's Office identified two people in the car, 44-year-old Sergio Perdomo-Bautista and 41-year-old Oscar Garca-Peraza.

We have contacted Dallas Police for an update on the accident investigation and are still awaiting a response.
