Hundreds attend event to fight ovarian cancer and support survivors

BLUE ASH, Ohio (WKRC) – An event this weekend in Blue Ash is supporting cancer survivors.

The Teal Power 5K Run and March to Fight Ovarian Cancer takes place Saturday, and everyone is invited to join hundreds of survivors and family members to raise awareness and money for research.

Local 12 met with two of those survivors on Wednesday. Dianne Weidman and Kathy Ventre were at Summit Park, where the event will be held, to tell their stories of survival.

Weidman has been a survivor for 13 years and Ventre for nearly three years. They said the support in this community has been remarkable. Both women took the time to express their gratitude for their survival and share what they want us to know about the early warning signs of this type of cancer.

“Ovarian cancer is referred to by the acronym 'BEAT'. It stands for bloating, eating disorders, abdominal pain and problems with going to the toilet.

“It completely changed my perspective on a lot of things. Family and friends; people were so incredibly wonderful, praying for me and helping me in so many different ways. My perspective on what was important in life, things that were happening at work weren't such a big crisis, and everything I did, I thanked God that I was here for another day,” Weidman said.

Here are the details of the run and walk. It takes place on Saturday at Summit Park in Blue Ash. You can register online or even on the morning of the walk. Find more details here.
