Father mourns 22-month-old daughter's death, calling it a 'brutal murder' after mother charged with child neglect

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – The biological father of 22-month-old Zamora Foe told News4JAX his daughter was taken off life support on Wednesday and died from injuries that led to the arrest of her mother and her mother's boyfriend and charges of child neglect.

“Today she was cut off from the power grid. She's gone. Officially there's nothing there. No air. Nothing,” Brandon Foe said of his daughter Zamora.

Last week, the toddler was admitted to Wolfson Children's Hospital in critical condition. Ten days later, her organs were donated.

How she ended up in the hospital is a story so horrific that it led to the arrest of her biological mother, 20-year-old Zayla Goodwin, and her mother's boyfriend, 22-year-old Nathanial Davis. The couple remains in prison on child neglect charges.

Zamora's biological father said he would never forget the moment police told him his daughter had broken bones all over her body and head.

“When I first heard about it, I broke down. I broke down badly. I didn't know how to function anymore. I didn't know how to move anymore,” Foe said.

According to a heavily redacted arrest report, the child was injured in her mother's home. The report states that Goodwin told police she awoke to a commotion in the living room and then discovered her boyfriend performing CPR on her unconscious daughter. After doctors spoke with police about the child's injuries, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit was notified, which led to a search warrant being executed on the mother's home.

Evidence collected in the house, statements from Goodwin and Davis, and the results of a medical examination led to the arrest of the two.

A GoFundMe was set up for Zamora's funeral.

“It will pay for everything. Her funeral. So she can get the headstone she deserves. It's murder. She was brutally murdered,” said Sylvia Teers, a longtime family friend.

Although Goodwin and Davis were only charged with child neglect, there is a possibility that the charge could be changed to murder following Zamora's death.
