1 suspect sought after attempted murder on California highway

The California Highway Patrol Monterey is investigating a shooting that occurred on Highway 1 on Monday. A CHP spokesperson said that at approximately 12:23 p.m., a victim reported that a shooting had just occurred on northbound Highway 1, south of Lightfighter Drive. The victim was unharmed, but damage to the vehicle was “consistent with a gunshot,” the spokesperson said. The victim said a person in a white vehicle pulled up to his right at a high rate of speed and pointed a handgun at him. Then the sound of a distinct gunshot was heard. The suspect was described as a 25-year-old Hispanic man dressed all in black. The suspect's vehicle continued north on Highway 1 and exited Lightfighter Drive. The CHP says it is investigating this case as an attempted murder. At this time, the cause of the shooting remains under investigation. The victim was uninjured, but the damage to the vehicle was “consistent with a firearm,” the spokesman said.

The victim said a person in a white vehicle pulled up to his right at a high rate of speed and pointed a gun at him. Then a clearly audible gunshot was heard.

The suspect was described as a 25-year-old Hispanic male wearing all black clothing. The suspect's vehicle continued north on Highway 1 and exited Lightfighter Drive.

CHP states they are investigating this case as attempted murder.

The cause of the shooting is still under investigation.
