Subway crash in Queens: 17-year-old girl arrested after couple broke in and stole empty train car

QUEENS, New York (WABC) – Police made an arrest after two intruders broke into a subway train in Queens and rode it until they collided with another car.

A 17-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of first-degree criminal damage and first-degree reckless endangerment.

The video in the media player above is from an earlier report.

According to the MTA, two people broke into an empty, out-of-service train at the Briarwood subway station shortly after midnight Thursday and rode about 50 feet before colliding with another out-of-service train car.

“It was an extremely stupid and reckless act by two individuals to access live broadcasts,” said transit authority interim president Demetrius Crichlow.

The accident caused only minimal damage.

Before the 17-year-old was arrested, the New York Police Department released a video of the intruders and believes they may have done this before.

A video shows the two suspects boarding and operating a subway train in Queens before causing an accident.

It is unclear if police are still looking for the other suspect, who is described as a thin man and was last seen wearing a blue tank top, red shorts and carrying a black backpack.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at or by emailing X @NYPDTips.
