Atlanta's Alexey Miranchuk outshines Lionel Messi with game-winning golazo

“It's a fantastic goal,” Atlanta interim coach Rob Valentino said after the game. “… I think we know he's a good finisher. I've told you that every day at practice. We look back at that stuff and think, 'Man, that kid has a great shot,' so I'm really happy for him.”

“And now he can integrate into the team. Officially, that's your first goal. Now you can go on and score more goals.”

In just his fourth appearance and third start for his new club, Miranchuk provided his first truly decisive moment for Atlanta, scoring a wonder goal in the 84th minute that followed Saba Lobjanidze's 1-1 equalizer early in the second half. Valentino says there is more to come from the 28-year-old Russian international.

“It's difficult to get to this league, no matter where you come from,” said Valentino. “It's a completely different league, especially when you come from the Italian league, a very tactical league, very controlled. And then he plays a game like that.”

“…He's fitting in really well. I think he's a fantastic personality. He's a great player and I think he's going to really help the team. He's helping to make the people around him better. That's why I'm glad we have him.”
