Four Albany police officers injured during operation against colleagues who were exposed to cocaine

Four Albany police officers were injured in a car accident on Wednesday afternoon.

Police Chief Eric Hawkins said the incident began at 4:40 p.m. when officers responded to a domestic dispute in the area of ​​Slingerlands Street and Second Avenue. Additional units were requested due to an unruly suspect.

While attempting to arrest a man, the two officers were confronted with cocaine powder that the suspect had on him.

Two separate emergency responders responded from another part of the city. Those responders were in the area of ​​Madison Avenue and Quail Street and collided shortly before 5 p.m., according to Hawkins.

According to Hawkins, all four police officers have head injuries. Two of them are seriously injured. One has a serious leg injury. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Mayor Kathy Sheehan said they were able to speak with all four injured officers.
