Teen arrested in Lady Lake after shooting outside restaurant, police say

According to Lady Lake police, a 15-year-old boy was arrested Saturday night following a shooting outside a restaurant.

FOX 35 News is not releasing the name of the teen suspect because he is a minor. Police said officers arrested the teen after a short chase with help from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

“The officers acted very professionally and the gentleman was arrested without incident,” said Police Chief Steven Hunt.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m., two hours after the restaurant at U.S. 441 and Griffin View Drive closed, according to police. Police said the brawl began as an argument between two groups inside the restaurant.

The police report states that the teen told officers he was with his father and a friend when he was punched in the face and chased outside. The teen then admitted to driving home in his father's car to get the gun, according to the report.

The report also states that the teen admitted to shooting the people who attacked his father and friend. Police said the suspect fired at least four shots. Police said no one was shot and restaurant staff told FOX 35 they were not harmed by the gunfire.

The suspect now faces a number of charges, including four counts of discharging a firearm, fleeing and eluding police officers, aggravated assault and driving without a license.

“We hope this young person gets the help he needs,” Hunt said. “It sends a message that people need to be responsible with their firearms. [and] that they must be locked away and made inaccessible to people who should not have them.”

According to police, the suspect actually hit someone with his car as he drove away from the restaurant parking lot.
