A woman died in a car accident in Worcester on Tuesday, police said.

As a result of the “serious pedestrian accident,” another victim had to be taken to hospital, Worcester police said in a statement.

Police arrived at the intersection of Clover Street and South Ludlow Street at 9:56 p.m. Tuesday, the statement said. Officers said they found two victims at the scene and took both to the hospital. The deceased victim was 35 years old, police said. The other, also female, “suffered less serious injuries,” the department said.

Worcester police said preliminary investigations indicate a driver was traveling along South Ludlow Street when two pedestrians crossed the street. The vehicle struck both pedestrians and then crashed into another car, police said. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

After more than 90 pedestrian-involved accidents in 2024, Worcester City Council voted on September 10 to lower the citywide speed limit to 25 miles per hour. In July, Worcester authorities also declared a “traffic safety and traffic violence crisis” after a 13-year-old girl was killed in an accident.
