Four people charged with murder

Four people are on trial after a man was found dead in northeast Dallas just over a month ago, police said Wednesday.

According to a Dallas Police press release, police responded to a 911 call at approximately 11:45 a.m. on August 11 and found 48-year-old Shaun Michael Smith dead in the 11500 block of Plano Road.

According to police, 56-year-old Byron Louis Nelson was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on Tuesday and is currently being held in the Gregg County Jail in East Texas. Three other people – Jared Collin Russell, 27, Deanna Marie Palmer, 23, and Marissa Krystin Mitchell, 36 – were arrested in late August and are currently being held in the Dallas County Jail, police said.

All four are charged with capital offenses, according to jail records. Nelson is being held on $1.14 million bail. No bail amount has been set for Russell, while bail has been set at $1 million for Mitchell and $250,000 for Palmer.

Police did not say how Smith was killed. According to the Dallas County coroner's file, Smith died at 7:50 a.m., nearly four hours before police found him.
