Donald Trump joked that he used a 3-wood club to take out the suspected assassin on his golf course in Florida.

Just hours after holding a rally in Uniondale, Long Island – his first public appearance since the second assassination attempt on him on Sunday – the former president appeared on Fox News' political satire talk show. Good field!

Moderator Greg Gutfeld quickly turned his attention to the failed assassination attempt on Trump, in which suspected gunman Ryan Wesley Routh (58) is said to have lurked outside the Republican presidential candidate's golf club in West Palm Beach for nearly twelve hours until the Secret Service discovered an SKS rifle protruding through a fence and foiled the alleged attack.

“How’s your golf game?” joked Gutfeld.

“Well, I haven't thought about it much lately,” Trump told a chuckling audience. “I always say golf is a very dangerous game.”

“Especially when they're playing with you,” Gutfeld joked, before admitting he made a “mean joke.”

Gutfeld then asked Trump – who once boasted of having a 2.5 handicap – whether the former president would have used his golf skills to stop the suspect if he had spotted him.

“If you had been told that the shooter was there, would you have tried to take him out with your Wood 3?” asked Gutfeld.

“I think so…if I knew,” Trump teased.

Trump continued to praise the Secret Service for preventing the alleged attack.

“Actually, the intelligence community did a great job. They saw the muzzle of a gun – a big gun. And it came out of the bushes. How many people would see that?” he said.

“They could have at least shouted 'be careful,'” joked television star George Murdoch, known as Tyrus – who also appeared on Gutfeld's show.

Routh was reportedly in the bushes about 400 to 500 yards from the former president during play on the course's fifth hole, officials said.

When a Secret Service agent shot the suspect, he allegedly fled in his vehicle, leaving behind cameras, a black plastic bag of groceries and the loaded semi-automatic rifle.

According to police, a witness wrote down the license plate of the suspect's Nissan SUV as he fled. Routh was later arrested on I-95 and taken into custody. Authorities released dramatic bodycam footage of his arrest.

Trump praised the “heroine” among the witnesses who helped authorities track down the suspect.

“Who would do something like that? Would that ever happen among a thousand people?” Trump said he had questioned authorities about the witness's actions.

“'Very rarely,'” the police officers replied.

Trump was asked how he was dealing with the threats – Sunday's incident was the second assassination attempt in two months.

He claimed that his job was many times more dangerous than that of a bull rider or a race car driver. “Six or seven percent” of US presidents are killed during their term in office.

Four of the 46 US presidents were assassinated during their term in office – that’s almost nine percent.

“It’s the most dangerous profession there is,” Trump added.

“It's always the powerful presidents who come under fire,” he said, echoing a tone he echoed at his rally in Flint, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.
