Two employees of a Salem company arrested for financial crimes

Two employees of a Salem company, Charles Owens and Cody Owens, were arrested for missing funds from the company. Both were released on bail from the Fulton County Jail.

According to affidavits from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, 55-year-old Charles Owens of Salem was arrested on charges of credit card fraud.

The owner of Tri-County Medical Supply told investigators that Charles Owens obtained three credit cards through the company that were unauthorized and that he had terminated his employment. He provided statements showing that Owens purchased a vehicle in January and made part of the payment using one of the credit cards. The vehicle was registered only to Charles Owens and not to the company.

The credit card was also used to pay the sales tax for the vehicle and the insurance premium. The transactions totaled $3,325.

Cody Owens, 29, of Batesville was arrested for theft.

According to the affidavit, Cody Owens withdrew $4,610 in cash from the business account between March and July 2023. The owner told investigators he was not authorized to withdraw the money.

The manager, Charles Owens, told investigators that he did not give Cody permission to withdraw cash and he did not know he did so.

The men are free on bail of $5,000 each.
