A year and a half later, my husband is charged with double murder

It's been more than a year and a half since a man and woman were found murdered in a Virginia home, and nearly a year since the au pair who lived with the woman's family was charged with one of the murders. Now the woman's husband has been charged with both murders, and authorities say he and the au pair had an extramarital affair that New York Times Reports. The details:

  • The victims: Christine Banfield, 37, was stabbed to death in the Herndon home she shared with her husband, Brendan Banfield, and their then-four-year-old daughter. Joseph Ryan, 38, was shot to death in the home.
  • The suspects: Brendan Banfield, now 39, is accused of planning the murders with his family's Brazilian au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhães, now 24. Both called 911 and were at the scene when police arrived. (For more details on how that morning unfolded, see our previous coverage.) Magalhães is charged with second-degree murder in connection with Ryan's death; Brendan Banfield is charged with aggravated murder in connection with both deaths.
