Murder investigation: 26-year-old man dies in stabbing

A 26-year-old man was stabbed to death in the early hours of the morning.

Cleveland Police launched a murder investigation after the man was killed in Norton, Stockton-on-Tees, shortly after 00:00 BST.

The man died at the scene of the attack, which occurred in front of a home on Hills Drive.

An eyewitness said the man was banging on doors and begging for help before collapsing.

Jeff Rochford heard a scream in the street and ran out. There he saw the man lying on the ground in front of his neighbor's house.

Jeff Rochford has short, light hair, is wearing a grey hoodie and is standing in front of a patch of grass.

His neighbour said he thought the man had “kicked well”, but Mr Rochford said he saw a “pool of blood” when he lifted him into the recovery position.

“Of course I thought he had been stabbed,” he said. “So I threw him on his back and immediately started CPR.”

Several crime scenes were set up throughout the area.

Officers are still on site and are asking any witnesses to come forward.
