Driver trapped after collision with vehicles assisting in another accident on I-85

POWDERSVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Powdersville Fire Department said a driver was trapped when he struck other vehicles responding to a separate incident early Thursday morning.

According to the department, firefighters were called to I-85 southbound near mile marker 39 at 3:55 a.m. for a multi-vehicle crash with entrapment.

Upon arrival, officers learned that highway patrol was on scene to assist a BMW that had broken down and was still on the road. A bystander in a tow truck stopped to help, but was struck by another vehicle minutes later.

Officials said the driver of the vehicle that struck the tow truck was pinned against the steering column but was quickly freed.

All southbound lanes were closed and reopened at 5 a.m.
