Former Patriots player arrested for alleged assault on 82-year-old man in gym

A former New England Patriots player denies allegations that he pushed an 82-year-old man to the ground during an argument over exercise equipment at a Planet Fitness gym last month.

Former NFL fullback Patrick Pass denied that the incident occurred on August 28 at the gym in North Providence, Rhode Island, when a reporter from local station NBC 10 asked him about the allegations at his home this week.

“Look at me, do you think I'm going to do that? Really, please, come on,” Pass, 46, told the outlet. “I have better things to do than try to attack somebody.”

Pass, who won the Super Bowl three times during his career alongside Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, was charged with 10 counts of assault and battery on a man over 60, according to NBC.

PEOPLE has reached out to North Providence Police for comment.

Juan Muriel, 82, told NBC 10 that when he woke up the next day, he “couldn't walk, couldn't lie down, couldn't do anything” because of his injuries.

“I felt like someone pushed me for no reason,” the older man told the outlet. “I never touched him, nothing.”

CBS News, NBC 10 and local WPRI report that Pass was given $10,000 bail on Wednesday. Kent County records reviewed by PEOPLE no longer show Pass in custody.

According to media reports, Pass will have to appear in court again in January.
