The best photos of the partial lunar eclipse in September 2024

The partial lunar eclipse illuminated part of the planet this week.

Unlike a total lunar eclipse, a partial lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon and Earth are not perfectly aligned, according to NASA, and only a small portion of the moon is covered. The second lunar eclipse of the year was visible across the Americas, Europe and Africa between the evenings of September 17 and 18.

This particular partial lunar eclipse – also called the Harvest Moon – was very special because it was also a supermoon, which shone even brighter and appeared even larger in the sky.

This partial lunar eclipse will be the last lunar eclipse of 2024, but don't worry if you missed it this year! The next total lunar eclipse will be March 13-14, 2025. According to timeanddate.com, this eclipse will be visible across Europe, the Americas, and much of Asia, Australia, and Africa.
