2 dead in apparent murder-suicide in Decatur

DECATUR, Alabama (WAFF) – Two people were killed in an apparent murder-suicide in Decatur on September 6.

According to a Decatur police spokesman, the incident occurred around 12:07 p.m. Officials conducted a wellness check at a home on 5th Avenue. Police said they found a woman and a man dead in the house, apparently from gunshot wounds.

The couple was identified as Stephanie Miller Tribble, 60, and Jonathan Wayne Dawes, 44.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department, Crime Scene Investigation Department, and Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn were on site to assist.

According to officials, both bodies were taken to the Alabama State Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

According to preliminary investigations, police believe that Dawes first shot his wife and then himself.

No further injuries were found on either person.

The Decatur Police Department's investigation is currently ongoing.
