Attempted murder charges against 15-year-old boy in shooting at Cuddy's Deli

JOLIET – In addition to the recent arrest of 19-year-old Marcus Gilbert of Crest Hill, Joliet police announced Thursday that Gilbert's 15-year-old accomplice has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder and other crimes in connection with the shooting deaths of two teenagers on the property of Cuddy's Grocery Store on Western Avenue.

The 15-year-old is currently being held at the River Valley Justice Center. His name is not being released because he is being charged as a juvenile, not an adult.

On August 28 at approximately 9:10 p.m., Joliet police found two juvenile shooting victims nearby in the 300 block of Bluff Street. The 17-year-old boy had a gunshot wound to his right calf and a 15-year-old boy had a gunshot wound to his buttocks.

According to Dwayne English, spokesman for the Joliet Police Department:

As Joliet Police Detectives continued their investigation into the shooting following Marcus Gilbert's arrest on September 10, a 15-year-old youth was identified as another suspect.

The teenager was questioned by detectives from the Joliet Police Department on Tuesday. The Will County District Attorney's Office subsequently confirmed charges of two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Gilbert himself was taken into custody in the early hours of September 10 in the 300 block of Woodcreek Drive in Bolingbrook by members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force.
