Beaumont police investigate fatal accident

Beaumont police are investigating a car crash that left a man dead and a female passenger seriously injured.

The crash was reported at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Brooklyn and Grant. According to investigators, the driver of a black four-door Honda Accord was traveling north on Brooklyn at Grant Street and crossed the intersection when he was approached by the driver of an oncoming 2019 Cadillac traveling east on Grant Street.

The officers received information from a possible witness that the Cadillac was traveling at high speed.

The driver of the Honda, 58-year-old Arthur Thomas of Beaumont, was taken by ambulance to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. His 57-year-old wife was the passenger. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Cadillac, a 31-year-old man from Beaumont, suffered minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
