Drunk driver arrested after early morning chase through North Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Kansas (KCTV) – A drunk driver was arrested after leading police on an early morning chase through North Lawrence.

Lawrence, Kansas, police said officers attempted to stop an erratic driver near the intersection of 2nd and McDonald Dr. at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Thursday, September 19.

However, the driver, later identified as Kody C. Rothfus, 32, of Lawrence, attempted to speed as he made three laps around the block. Police officials said they laid out nail barriers on the third lap, but Rothfus evaded them.

Dashcam footage captured Rothfus speeding down Princeton Boulevard and turning north onto Iowa, where he was brought to a safe stop by a Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Rothfus was arrested and booked into jail for fleeing or attempting to elude, driving under the influence, carrying an open container, and hindering prosecution.

As of Thursday afternoon, Rothfus' bail of $3,850 was posted and he is no longer behind bars. No further information has been released.
