Michigan County Commissioner Convicted of Federal Drug Charges

MONROE COUNTY, Michigan – A Monroe County commissioner was sentenced to prison last week after pleading guilty to a federal drug charge.

According to court documents, Commissioner Mark Brant pleaded guilty to maintaining a drug den in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio on March 20. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Sept. 11 and will be on probation for two years after his incarceration.

In Brant's indictment, dated December 15, 2022, he was accused of distributing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and marijuana in violation of federal law.

According to the Monroe County website, Brant represents the county's 2nd District and is chairman of the board.

WTOL 11 reached out to Monroe County Commissioners for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
