Video of domestic violence incident against Julio Urias surfaced

A video of the domestic violence incident against former Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has surfaced showing him hitting his wife.

A video obtained by the Los Angeles Times shows Urias, who was arrested last September on suspicion of domestic violence, attacking his wife outside BMO Stadium in Los Angeles after an LAFC game.

The video, dated September 3, 2023, shows the 28-year-old pushing his wife against a fence before the two are separated, but Urias then reaches out to his wife with his left hand before he is held back.

A witness recorded the video, which was released by the California Highway Patrol.

In April, Urias was charged with five misdemeanors: one count of spousal violence, one count of false imprisonment, one count of assault and two counts of domestic violence in a relationship.

In May, he pleaded no contest to one count of domestic violence and was sentenced to 36 months probation, while the other four charges were dropped.

He was also sentenced to 30 days of community service and a 52-week domestic violence counseling course.

Three days after the incident, MLB placed Urias on leave and the left-hander was not re-signed after his contract with the Dodgers expired.

The league has not yet decided on a possible suspension for Urias.

“MLB continues to collect all relevant evidence as part of its investigation,” a league spokesman told the LA Times on Wednesday.

If Urias is suspended, he would be the first player to be suspended twice under the league's domestic violence policy; in 2019, he was suspended for 20 games following an incident at a mall.

A member of the Dodgers' 2020 World Series championship team, Urias went 20-3 with a 2.96 ERA in 2021 and 17-7 with a 2.16 ERA in 2022, finishing third in NL Cy Young voting.

Last season he went 11-8 with an ERA of 4.60.
